Don’t forget sunscreen as part of your anti-aging skin care routine. Remember to wear sunscreen daily and reapply every 2-3 hours when outside for long periods of time. UV radiation can cause premature signs of aging and skin cancer. A combination of physical and chemical blocking agents is common in sunscreens. Physical blocking agents include zinc oxide, micronized zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. A common chemical blocking agent is Avobenzone, which absorbs UV radiation.
Popular skin classification for sun sensitivity:
• I - Always burns, never tans
• II - Burns easily, tans minimally
• III - Burns moderately, tans gradually to light brown
• IV - Burns minimally, always tans well to moderately brown
• V - Rarely burns, tans profusely to dark
• VI - Never burns, deeply pigmented
Skin types I and II are at the highest risk for photo aging effects
and skin cancer. However, sun effects, including wrinkles and skin cancer, can occur in all skin types.
